Welcome to the wonderful world of clawhammer style ukulele – a fine old style for modern day musicians
I am a ukulele teacher based in the sunny Algarve in Portugal who specialises in playing and teaching clawhammer style ukulele. This approach is the natural development of my clawhammer banjo playing inspired in turn by the banjo teaching of Dwight Diller with whom I have studied in the past. This fine old style works really well on the uke in re-entrant tuning as the high 4th string (the one nearest your chin) works well as a thumbed drone string.
I specialise in providing 1-1 online teaching for clawhammer uke. Click on the top menu to find out how these online classes work.
Alternatively join www.patreon.com/the_ukulele_club where you can take specialist ukulele classes and have access to much more learning material including clawhammer and traditional two-finger style playing.
We are even planning Clawhammer Uke music retreats on our farm in the sunny Algarve (more details in the contact section).
In the meantime here are some audio clips, playing exercises and tune tablature to help get you started and to promote this wonderful way of playing the uke.
I look forward to hearing from you
